Great news – the next phase of our Active Tollerton project is due to commence next week with a new Mobilus Seesaw being installed.
The new mobilus is the permanent replacement for its predecessor that had to be removed to provide sufficient space for the active and interactive play equipment without building over the buried pipeline that crosses the Open Space.
Installation is due to begin week commencing 11th Jan ongoing for a week or so. The Mobilus will be located next to the ‘roll up gravity spinner’ creating a spin zone between the tarmac sports court and the teens area.
We’re grateful to Notts County Council Local Improvement Scheme for funding that has enabled this to go ahead with the rest of the monies coming from the Parish Council’s Tollerton Development Fund. For public safety areas of the park may need to be closed during installation – apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Keeping the Open Space safe for all
Having great local facilities has become even more important during the pandemic. The Open Space has been well used and our Active Tollerton improvements have enabled residents of all ages to use the space for longer hours than ever before, from early morning running and workouts to evening exercise classes and tennis under the refurbished flood lights.
But we also aware that there has been an increase in unwanted activity around the Open Space Car Park in recent weeks and have heard the concerns of residents about this. We are working with Notts Police to understand how they are tackling such issues and to learn how we can further improve the open space to reduce this and deter those abusing the facilities.
We will be making a number of changes in the coming weeks to improve lighting around the car park, review entry and exit arrangements and will consider other measures such as cctv on the advice of the Police.
The Open Space is a rural village park with views of the countryside and we want it to continue to feel like a rural village park. Changes will be considered and implemented in an escalating scale to protect this but ultimately our priority will be to keep the Open Space safe.
As a short term measure the carpark gate will now be closed daily from 5pm for site security and to deter unwanted use of the carpark after hours. The gate will be reopened by 9am the next morning.
We know that residents like to use of the Open Space later in the day and would prefer the car park to be available to residents looking to use the Open Space in the evening under flood lights for fitness and sports. The early evening car park closure is therefore temporary until other improvements have been completed and we hope to be able to put it back into use next month.
